Synesthesia

A brain injury in 2018 left me with color / kinesthetic synesthesia, a phenomenon in which I experience color as a physical sensation. Working with paint and color often diminishes the symptoms of my injury and creates new neural pathways. Having the injury has also led me to spend time connecting with my lineage. One of my lines of ancestry is directly tied to Madagascar, home to thousands of types of orchid species.

This collection explores color and microbiology as a way to create healing and connect with my ancestors.
